We come together to celebrate one of the most primal genres in electronic music.
Early electro is characterized by futuristic, spine-tingling, UFO-robot-like sounds, which embody the longing for technological progress.
In the late 1990s, our relationship with technology began to change; machines became part of our everyday lives, and the longing for advancements that would come with the 2000s appeared.
But let’s start at the beginning.
Electro emerged alongside electronic music, although the first experiments with electronic music began as early as the second half of the 1950s. A good example of this is the Hungarian science education program *Delta*’s theme song, composed by Tom Dissevelt & Kid Baltan.
The first conscious electronic dance music can be traced back to the 1970s, championed by Kraftwerk’s LP *Autobahn*.
Electro exploded in the early 1980s, blending with hip-hop, boogie, and breakbeat. Examples include “Planet Rock” by Afrika Bambaataa and The Soulsonic Force, and the Grammy-winning “Rockit” by Herbie Hancock.
Afterward, the spotlight shifted to other electronic music genres, and electro faded into the background before regaining popularity in the early 2000s.
For this club night, we aimed to showcase the genre’s leading Hungarian artists. More on them soon!
