Ruth (Kathleen Chalfant) egy demenciával küzdő öreg hölgy, aki egy ideje már egy luxusszállodában lakik, de ezt csak hiszi, mert az valójában nem más, mint egy idősek otthona. Miközben saját vágyai változásokon mennek keresztül, meg kell szoknia új környezetét és az azzal járó rutinokat, no meg az új arcokat, akik körülveszik. Korabeli lakótárs szomszédjaival nem igazán találja a közös hangot, ám összebarátkozik ott dolgozó gondozóival, Vanessával (Carolyn Michelle) és Briannel (Andy McQueen), valamint úgy véli, az őt folyton látogató fiatal Steve (H. Jon Benjamin) egy lovagias, szeretetteljes udvarlója, akihez már ő is vonzódni kezd – de Steve valójában a fia. A korábban szakácsnőként dolgozó Ruth nem hazudtolja meg önmagát, hamar kiköt az otthon konyháján, s ahogy készíti a finomabbnál finomabb fogásokat, újraéli fiatalkorát, régi életét. A baj csak az, hogy ezzel egy csapásra tudata úgy kezdi érzékelni, hogy ez a valóság és mikor tudatosul benne, hogy közel se, megszökik az intézményből, hogy saját feje után rohanva valami ismerőset keressen…
Ruth (Kathleen Chalfant) is an elderly woman living with dementia who has been residing in a luxury hotel for some time or so she believes. In reality, the place is a nursing home. As her own desires and needs evolve, she must adjust to her new surroundings, the routines that come with them, and the unfamiliar faces around her. She struggles to connect with her fellow residents, who are around her own age, but forms friendships with two members of the care staff, Vanessa (Carolyn Michelle) and Brian (Andy McQueen). She also believes that Steve (H. Jon Benjamin), a young man who visits her regularly, is a chivalrous and affectionate suitor, and she gradually finds herself falling for him. In reality, Steve is her son. Having previously worked as a cook, Ruth soon finds her way into the nursing home’s kitchen, where preparing one delicious dish after another allows her to relive her youth and reconnect with her former life. The trouble is that this experience suddenly begins to feel more real to her than anything else. When she realises that things are far from what she imagined, she escapes from the facility, determined to follow her own instincts and search for something familiar…
