ÉS! Discover the tumultuous 800-year history of Buda Castle from the era
of kings to modern state governance. As the highlight of the tour\, step i
nside the long-restricted Carmelite Monastery to visit the former Prime Mi
nister’s private office. To top it all off\, step out onto the famous ba
lcony to capture a most extraordinary view of Budapest. Join us and explor
e the historical seat of Hungarian monarchs and political leaders. Along t
he walk\, we will bring to life the stories of legendary kings and queens\
, brilliant military commanders\, Ottoman pashas\, and influential politic
al figures who shaped the fate of not only Buda and Hungary\, but often of
foreign nations as well. During the first half of the tour\, we will expl
ore the Palace District. Toss a coin into the fountain of our great Renais
sance ruler\, King Matthias\, to ensure your return according to legend. D
iscover how the Royal Palace was built and rebuilt from the Middle Ages to
the present day – surviving catastrophes\, wars\, foreign occupations a
nd the ultimate destruction brought on by the 1944–45 Siege of Budapest.
Find out how one of Europe’s most beautiful royal residences was create
d at the turn of the 20th century under King Franz Joseph\, and why his wi
fe\, Queen Elisabeth (Sisi)\, loved staying here so much. Beyond royalty\,
you’ll hear stories of the Ottomans\, German and Soviet soldiers\, visi
onary architects\, royal bodyguards and their noble steeds. In the second
half of the tour\, we step inside the only surviving monastery building in
Buda Castle\, built by the Carmelite Order in the 18th century. Following
the dissolution of the order\, these walls served many roles\, housing
 – at different times – a theatre\, a casino\, storage rooms\, and gove
rnment offices. For years\, this beautifully restored landmark\, the offic
ial seat of the Prime Minister’s Office was closed to the public – a p
lace where the cabinet met weekly and national-level decisions were made.
Now the doors of this venue have been opened to visitors! Stroll inside it
s historic halls in the footsteps of monks\, actors\, politicians and dipl
omats. Visit the former office of Viktor Orbán\, and step out onto the fa
mous balcony for one of the most breathtaking\, panoramic views of the cap
 ital! DURATION: 90 mins DEPARTURE: Savoy Terrace\, 1014 Budapest\, Szent G
yörgy tér 2. (Szent György Square 2) ARRIVAL: Carmelite Building\, Szí
nház utca 1. (Színház Street 1) Good to know - this is an outdoor and i
ndoor programme - the walk is recommended for people above 12 years of age
  - as the programme starts precisely at the time indicated\, we cannot wai
t for latecomers - the walk is held in all weather conditions (even in cas
e of rain) - as the walk winds on cobbled roads\, stairs and narrow corrid
ors\, it is not suitable for people with disabilities - we recommend that
 you wear comfortable walking shoes
